The Ellis Middle School Jazz Band will practice during Jag Jam on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This ensemble is offered to 7th and 8th grade students. The WEMS Jazz band consists of only these instruments alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trombone, and trumpet. The drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, and piano will be audition only. We will only take 2 drummers, 1 bass guitar, 1 electric guitar, and 1 piano player.
All students in 7th and 8th grade band can audition for Jazz band. If your instrument is not offered in jazz band then you can check out a closely related instrument to play in jazz band. (i.e. clarinets can play the saxophone, horn can play the trumpet, low brass can play the trombone). This is considered an honors ensemble and students will be expected to act as leaders to other members and perform in the community at higher expectations. During the course of the year, the Jazz band will learn how to perform different styles of jazz as well as the history that correlates to these styles.This ensemble will perform at local events in the community, school events, band concerts, and at District Jazz Band events.
