Mrs. James is a graduate from Mars Hill University with a degree in Music Education with a concentration in Percussion.  While at Mars Hill University, she performed for the Mars Hill Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Low Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and College Choir.  Here, she was fortunate to study percussion pedagogy under Professor Dr. Brian Tinkle, and  conducting and band techniques under Professor Dr. Alton Corley and Professor Mike Robinson.

After college, Mrs.  James taught for 3 years in Caldwell County at Gamewell Middle School.  While at Gamewell, Mrs. James was named Rookie Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year.  She then moved to Winston-Salem to start a family.  She has a wonderful husband and a beautiful son.

Mrs. James is currently the director of bands at William Ellis Middle School.  The 8th grade band received their first Superior rating going in Grade II music at the State Music Performance Adjudication in 2013 and has continued the tradition ever since.  In 2015, the 8th grade band received their first Superior rating going in Grade III music.  Mrs. James was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year at WEMS.  The WEMS Band Program has a great tradition of record numbers in All County, District and All Region Jazz Honor Bands.

Mrs. James is active in the Northwest District Bandmasters Association and North Carolina Music Educators Association.
